It all depends if checks and balances work. There's European precedence of them not working. Hungary and Poland. There's also Turkey. I guess noone in their right mind would still call it a democracy. If a president presides over bootlicking houses, all kinds of things are possible.
It is going to be an interesting test of checks and balances. I think a big problem is that Bush and Obama both have been expanding executive authority greatly and our system of checks and balances, which once was one of the best systems in the world, has been greatly eroded. Part of this is Obama's fault. He expanded the power of sign in statements and expanding the power of the president to unilaterally make war. Oops. Seems like a mistake now, doesn't it?
