I'd just like to point out that condescending lectures like this are part of why Trump won: a lot of white voters are sick and tired of progressives treating them like this. News flash: white people are the MAJORITY. You don't get anything done in a democratic society by pissing off the majority.

Yeah, I get it. There are issues of racial and gender and ethnic inequality in America. I get it more than most people. The issues are (mostly) good issues and they deserve to be talked about. Hell, they NEED to be talked about.... but that doesn't justify being an asshole when talking about them.

Try this instead: Instead of lectures, have conversations. Don't talk TO people, talk WITH people. Hear what they have to say and respond to that. So far, I think that's what has been missing in a lot of progressive talking points and it's the reason those talking points aren't especially attractive to a lot of people. Because, when you do respond to someone but you don't try to understand their perspective, when you don't try to see where they're coming from, you're likely just setting up a straw man.
