They are so afraid of hell and eternal torture. What I hate the most is how theists come to me and say "What's the point of your life?" "It has no meaning." It pisses me off because what they don't realize is that they're life is pointless if they think they're going to heaven forever. They're life on earth because so meaningless they might as well kill themselves. Our lives on the other hand are extremely meaningful because we don't know what happens when we die, most likely nothing. If there was no concept of hell, I'm pretty confident that religion would have a hard time functioning. Thinking

They won't admit it. They do lust for something more after this limited existence ends. The lust for some kind of greater purpose deludes them.
Life isn't meaningless. It is a great chance for each of us to see what it is to exist. To discover who we are and where we came from. As one bright mind put it "we are the cosmos looking at itself".
We can create our own sense of purpose. Mine is to live life to the full whilst helping others to do the same. To experience as much as possible before I become scattered molecules and atoms again.
Your existence is what you make of it. You can either choose to see reality for what it is or hide from it with religion. I hate it when theists say they are in the interest of truth. If they were, they'd have no problem accepting reality around them. Truth seekers will accept the truth no matter how good or evil or disappointing it may be.

The threat of hell only works on those who believe it. Fear is a good motivational tool but not always reliable. Fear turns into hate and hate turns into rebellion.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
