Not even saying religion is good but it fills a void. It provides a community, a purpose larger than yourself.
I don't agree with all the Catholic Church teaches, but I do enjoy mass at some level and the social event it provides.
What do you fill an absence of religion with? Atheism itself does not seem enough
I'm not much of a sports fan, so you might as well ask: "What do you fill a lack of interest in footballl with? Basketball alone doesn't seem enough".
The answer is I do whatever find of interest, (which may vary from day-to-day, month-to-month and year-to-year).
At one time, I used to go to church, to please other family members, but I would not participate in prayers, and when hymns were sung, I'd find
myself singing my own thoughts in opposition to what was on the hymn sheet. An example of this might be:-
Congregation: "Jesus loves me this I know, For the Bible tells me so".
Me: " 'J' don't love me I think not, 'Cos I find he don't exist".
I thought that I was being disrespectful to those in attendance, so I finally
decided not to go to church any more, (except for weddings and funerals).
There is no hole to be plugged by this absenteeism on my part.
There never seems to be enough time to do all of the things I have as it is.
There are no atheists in terrorist training camps.
