CIJS how much I fucking hate when people use the "colonialism!" argument for a country's shitty behavour.
"The British" left your country 70 years ago. If by this point your country hasn't dealt with "colonial" issues like misogyny and homophobia you claim you disapprove of, whose fault is that? Not the British, honey.
I could easily sit here and make excuses like "well the European Knights Catholicised us!" for my grandparents' country, who still ban abortion and have only just legalised divorce in 2011. I'm not going to do that though. Making that excuse just takes accountability and agency away from people of my ethnicity, and treats them like they're too stupid to overcome shitty ideas on their own. I want and expect better of them.

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable." - Maryam Namazie
