There's a difference between what you call white guilt and accepting that our history wasn't all good and working on not repeating it. I don't feel guilt for that because I wasn't alive at the time. But inversely, some people still feel pride in the British empire. The empire mentality still blights Britain even though we are no longer an empire. I can fight against this. I can also recognise that I am indirectly benefiting from Britain having an empire in the past. It won't stop me continuing to benefit from it, but I can at least appreciate why.
