I always find it interesting to hear stories about conservative churches because the church my parents raised me in was extremely liberal. I never understood that people could use Christianity to further their hate and political ideas until much later in my life.
I'm always interested in these deconversion stories because I was never a believer myself, just a somewhat spiritually apathetic kid who couldn't see any difference between Christianity and Greek mythology. So, I have a question for you. What was the hardest psychological aspect of giving up Christianity? Was it trying to convince yourself you weren't going to hell, or was it something along the lines of no longer having god watching over your shoulder and guiding you?

Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
