I guess I shouldn't crack wise on that topic.
I fell from a ladder onto broken glass several years ago, and managed to ram a large shard in one of my palms. I was in a terrible hurry to finish the job (and get paid) and pulled the shard out with pliers, and then wrapped hand with paper towels and electrical tape.
And that was it for doctoring it.
I have nerve damage in that hand now, but it doesn't affect dexterity, the problem is an area opposite of the thumb that is mostly numb, but when it is subject to cold, it registers as 'wet'. I'm accustomed to it now, but it took awhile. The numbness isn't much of a challenge, but getting false indications of moisture was an occasional aggravating nuisance.
