Ok, even if they absolutely did decide to use gas, does it really matter? Let's say we suddenly find out it wasn't gas after all. Is our position "Sorry, we thought you had done something wrong when you killed those kids. Carry on."

They ran out of the brown colored bombs when loading munitions so they toss on a few of the greens to make a full payload?

It's probably a mistake to assume any sort of logic was being utilized.
