Except they aren't running "permanently at full speed". There's plenty of walking, jogging, and trotting, none of which is terribly exciting. Don't get me wrong, having played both soccer and football as a youth, soccer made more aerobic demands of my body. But I think the "slow" Brian is talking about is the slow pace of scoring.
But, you don't know awesome until you've stopped a running back who was fool enough to cut back to your side of the line and you get to lower the boom on him. That's awesome. Soccer is, at best, humdrum.
