Again, the vastly overwhelming majority of gun owners do not use the gun to commit crimes or shoot their family members, either by accident or on purpose.
If I have a firearm for personal use, hunting or protection of self and/or property, then I prefer to have at least one more bullet than the bad guy or the wild dogs intent on gnawing on me, so I can get to safety. I would rather have many more bullets then they and an extra clip, because I can't run so fast anymore.
If I braid my child's hair while holding a pistol, then I am an idiot.
If I do not educate my children about the proper handling of firearms, then I am an idiot.
I if I do not keep my guns safely stored, then I am an idiot. But...this does not count for the ones used for immediate protection, which must obviously be kept loaded and at the ready. Otherwise, they are as useless as not having one.
Aside from that, bad things happen and people intent on killing others or themselves will do so with whatever means they have available.
And...nobody can predict psychotic breaks that lead to disaster.
Firearms are not easy to purchase and in most states require time and money and patience....except air guns, maybe .22s in some states.
In Maryland, the paperwork and background checks and regulations are more strict than other states, but abided by when purchasing legally. What happens illegally is not within the state's ability to control it seems. So why should lawfully owned guns purchased by law-abiding people be taken away?
An I obsessed with guns? No, but I refuse to become a statistic. I am obsessed with keeping my family and myself and my property safe from whatever forces that would work against that condition.
