I think it would be an immensely difficult thing to do, requiring massive amounts of education. We would still tell our children "just-so" stories of course. I'm wondering what makes people think that we aren't already getting rid of religion? There were/are many more religions beyond the big 3, they're all dead or very near death, why assume the ones we have will remain in perpetuum?
The issue is getting people to understand what awes them. Giving them a fuller knowledge of the things that scream god to them. I hope that a better understanding of the world around them would lead to a fuller sense of wonder, but I suppose some people do indeed like magic, genies, etc. Even those people still go to work though don't they. They don't sit around casting spells for their salaries.
