Musicians steal from musicians all the time, ESPECIALLY in folk and blues. I wouldn't even call it wrong.
If you look at the extent that Led Zeppelin stole from earlier blues musicians without crediting them in my opinion it is definitely wrong.
It wasn't even just riffs sometimes it was entire lyrics, and without crediting them.
When it's using a similar riff or chord progression I think it's understandable. But there's entire youtube videos detailing a LOT of their songs directly ripping off so so many earlier blues songs.
I don't think they should be crucified for it, I personally think as I said before that they did a better job of the songs than the people they ripped off. But it would't have killed them to give credit where it's due.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
