Why does the vacuum not run out if higgs bosons get annihilated in interactions? Excellent question, difficult to answer, let me think about it!
Did I say inching? No, millimetering. If there's no particle then how can the hf continuously interact with quanta? Unless the field is in continuous super excitation.
I think this last question slipped down the page a little bit.
