I read on a magazine that I was subscribing to in the 80's (Wireless World, from UK), that the rate of success to position a satellite properly around earth was about 20% only (article written in mid 80's and based on the records of the insurance companies related to spatial projects).
On the other hand, about 16 years earlier and by a miracle perhaps, the rate of success for a man (not a capsule or alike) to land on the moon and return back home (I think 6 times) was 100%.
I personally find hard to believe also in scientific miracles. But I guess it is not a crime if someone likes to believe in any sort of miracles in order for him to feel better.
Delusional thinking is rarely a good thing, but often a god thing. It's when people insist we should share something that's purely in their heads that problems start.
As for Wireless World, remember that magazines have no requirement to be accurate.
Oh, and remember Apollo 13?
