Depends what angle you're looking from.
I'm pretty liberal and a feminist and I loathe Islam.
But I support the rights of the women to wear headscarves if they want to.
Where I draw the line is the black body sacks some insist on wearing and burqas.
But, for some reason, in the West we try to create laws banning these garments. Instead we should be banning ALL clothing that hides the face in public areas.
Still, again I am not against religious clothing in a legal sense, but WILL still point out to any and ALL religions the sexism of gender role clothing. Islam even with the Hijab is STILL gender role clothing based on a sexist past. But even the religions of Asia, and even here in the states with Christianity, depending on sect and or individual family, value the sexist gender role clothing of antiquity. Nuns in Catholic history even today, in many parts of Europe still wear things like habits, but yet you'd never see a female Pope.
If female Muslims like modesty dress they don't need a religious reason to do it anymore than a non Muslim woman needs a religion to wear a head scarf. Even the Amish and sects of LDS have very sexist gender role clothing based on religion.
But yea, strictly for pragmatic reasons, especially when it is not cold outside, and you are in a security situation like at an airport, you really have no good reason to cover your face, men neither.
