Mister Agenda quote- "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." Matthew 16:28
Someone in the audience would reasonably have taken Jesus to be talking about his permanent return in glory to rule the world. Since that didn't happen, an ad hoc explanation had to be made up in order to be able to say that this statement is still true, at the cost of changing its plain meaning.
The verse is open to interpretation, the most reasonable one is that JC was talking about the establishing of Christianity on earth.
PS- anyway he's not coming back to "rule the world", he's coming back to whisk us off to a another place-
"..when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels and they will gather his elect from the four winds.."

EDIT- drat, I can't make that Close Encounters link display properly (sniffle)

The Valkyrie quote- Seriously? Look how popular Jesus is by the comments?
No, my point was that considering a lot of AF members are saying he was just a myth and fairytale, they still like talking about him in the 8 pages of this sensational thread. He was as real as Elvis, and the similarities are uncanny..
"After Jesus spent the night in prayer, everybody tried to touch him because power was coming from him" (Luke 6:12-19)

drfuzzy quote- The very definition of atheism as defined by Merriam-Webster is:
a : a lack of belief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods
b : a philosophical or religious position characterized by disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods
I will happily change my mind when your imaginary friend shows up, walks across a swimming pool, heals a few amputees and others, and answers a whole boatload of questions. There is nothing you can say or do or post that will fulfill those requirements.
He answered a bunch of questions in the gospels! And his 37 miracles are pretty powerful evidence that he was able to channel the power of the universe through himself just like he said-
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me" (Matt 28:18 )
"I am not of this world ....though you do not believe me, believe the miracles..." (John 8:23,John 10:38,Matt 13:35)
But some people found him very scary so they killed him, Klaatu and Data got the same rough treatment-

Ignoramus quote- OP, you like Princess Leia more than Darth Vader?
That's cool...
You know, it's OK to like Darth Vader... in lots of different ways...
We know what the bible says about that!
Maybe you do like Darth a lot more but aren't allowed to admit it?
Well, Vader was a tough warrior and born leader so I respect him for that because he's a lot like me, I'm a -- ahem-- computer wargaming champion under my fighting name 'PoorOldSpike'..

Minimalist quote- "Wait...wait.... I thought they [God and Jesus] were one and the same? Why can't these jesus freak shitwits keep their story straight?"
You'd better ask them mate..
Jesus made it crystal clear he wasn't God-
"I am going to the Father, for my Father is greater than I" (John 14:28 )
"Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone" (Luke 18:19)
"Only God knows when Judgment Day will be, I don't know myself" (Mark 13:32)
"I say nothing of my own accord, I only say what my father tells me to say.." (John 12:49)

Mordant quote- He [Dropship] was suggesting that the divinity of Christ is a fringe idea of a few nutjobs. It is a central tenet of Christian orthodoxy, and included in all the major credal statements. So it's the fringe idea of a whole LOT of nutjobs. You would be treated as a heretic by the vast majority of the church, Catholic and Protestant, for denying the divinity of Christ.
I don't give a rat's ass what organised religion thinks!
Jesus said:-"You have one teacher, me" (Matt 23:10)
Anyway it depends what they mean by "divine". He was half-human, half-God, so he was only "half-divine"..

Epiphany quote- Wait until you get a load of the Buddha then.
Buddha was a great truthseeker but the bottom line is he was just a human giving us his own guesses and hunches, whereas Jesus had a direct line to God, there's the difference..
Jesus said - "For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent me gave me a command, what I should say and what I should speak" (John 12:49)
