There's so many implications it would be difficult to make an accurate prediction as to what would happen.
I imagine if the genetically altered humans are superior in everyway then eventually they will dominate the earth.

We have a tendency to focus on some specific desirable trait and it has an unforseen side effect. This happens a lot already in sports where people are changing their testosterone, taking pain killers or altering blood cells and so on.
Genetic alteration could result in some weird desirable trait being bred to be out of hand. Like peacocks with big useless colourful feathers.
I think the population growth might go crazy which could result in either a lot more murder/war. It might result in underwater cities and space colonization.
The idea isn't that scary to me though, I'm sure experiments like this are already being done on mice and I'll probably be dead by the time they get heavily underway with these experiments on humans.
In my life time they might be deciding little things like eye colour or the sex of the baby, if they aren't already. Or cutting out some illnesses of some sort.
