Energy consumption did witness quite an interesting advance; with the introduction of electric technology, to the harnessing of the sun's energy and wind energy, it looks like humanity got over fossil fuel.
With this withdrawal from the energy source in a matter of 80 years only (since WW2), fossil fuel is not black gold anymore: it's more of a "black temporary cash revenue". The duration of its advent did not move Islamic nations any further; instead it made the appearance of proxies like ISIS and the creation of defeat in almost all fields a reality.
Oil producing countries are facing the catastrophe of lack of demand with the decline of oil prices. This simply means that any power that based its economy on oil is facing destruction due to bankruptcy. The gulf countries show a very splendid example of this.
WW2 didn't even finish a 100 years span. The societies of the Middle-East are becoming more rotten from the inside; and that only sends the signs of a fall. Either due to civil wars, or bankruptcy, this fate looks coming no matter what.
A personal note: This is what you get when you replace an open-border policy with racism, and this is what you get when you think that a handful of cash make you an immortal who is better than everybody.
