Leaving aside your 'liberal, atheist Jew' jibe, I think it's undeniable that Jewish-American efforts to keep those memories alive has a lot to do with it. But don't forget that we have a relative wealth of first-hand documentary evidence of the Nazi crimes that dwarfs what we have of Stalin's purges and the gulag system. We have books, including memoirs, of the Soviet crimes, but relatively few people read them. However, I suspect that most people eventually see the photos and film images taken at the Nazi-run camps, and those images tend to burn themselves into one's mind.
