Where am I ignoring the religious endeavor Frodo? I've spent considerable amounts of time learning about the religious endeavor. I just decided it might be prudent to consult more than one book on the subject.
Look, if you started a thread, called "The Truth in the Metaphors of Christianity" I would probably end up being one of the most positive contributors. A good story, with good moral lessons (in places) is one thing, trying to assert that these stories themselves somehow speak to the truth of the christian god, with no supporting evidence, and in the face of all the evidence we have, that's ridiculous, and intellectually insulting. I'm not interested in building walls between my opinions and reality. Without constructing these walls (read: special pleading) it is impossible to even begin to have a discussion about your concept of god. You know this. I'm just pointing out that it's bullshit, as always.
Let me be clear. I am very much in awe of the various ways in which we have tried to explain our existence. There is nothing in those myths that present a defensible model of the world around us. They were understandably incorrect.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
