Sweet corn varieties are developed for sweetness and flavor, not much effort is put in to any other traits for fear of messing up the taste.
We connoisseurs are pleased, although Roundup tolerance would be nice.
BTW, sweet corn seed ain't cheap either, $50 for 5 lbs isn't unusual.
Consider the teosinte picture I posted earlier, and then the ear of sweet corn above and realize that is just the result of selective breeding.
