yeah, compared to all other plants, corn is damn weird.  And without people, it couldn't propagate.  A patch of corn left to itself will die out.  People need to harvest it, separate the seeds and plant them properly, otherwise, it just isn't viable.

That settles it then. There must be a god. No other explanation.
