I love special effects too, but I would much rather have a well written movie with no effects. The majority of movies nowadays only even have scripts as vehicles for special effects. I am so tired of poorly written movies with huge special effects budgets, and I would love for Hollywood to start taking the writing process more seriously. Plus they need to stop letting producers mangle scripts.

As would I. I've watched trailers of late, meaning for the last few years, that tell me all I need to save money at the box office. The ridiculous waste of celluloid that gets sold to the American consumer, is insulting.

It's as if there's this group in Hollywood who sits around and reviews the most god awful scripts and then confer and come to a majority decision to produce the trash, by asking one major question first and foremost.
Do you think the audiences are stupid enough, desperate enough for entertainment or to watch their favorite star on screen, so as to make this a box office hit?

And to think, watching "Actors Studio" , of all those kids hoping to graduate and make it in the movie business, when Hollywood only has a select bunch of actors they rotate studio by studio, project after project in competition with one another, so that after awhile it becomes so familiar, that famous face on screen, that the discriminating viewer doesn't buy into the project at all.
No, that's not so and so in this new release. That's frickin Tom Hanks AGAIN! That's Julia Roberts AGAIN! Fuck all, they're working in a project together as student and teacher. Are you fucking kidding me?

And all the while they're paid millions to repeat famous faces, piss poor scripts, bad acting (Nicolas Cage should sell cars, not box office) , and story lines that are so predictable one would think they're psychic.

But it's like concerts, in many respects. When the band sucks the producers think if they crank the amps the audience bleeding ears will distract them from realizing they didn't get their ticket money's worth.
With movies, it's pile on the special effects, flood the theater with THX surround sound, and who actually gives a shit if the movie sucks, when we (Hollywood and the theater franchise) already has your money!?

That's why I rent movies, new release DVD's, from the local public library. I haven't been to a theater in years! I figure if the movie blows it was worth every penny. I just got tired of being disrespected by a conglomerate who don't credit me with the imagination they so sorely lack, or who presume I'm so stupid I'll literally buy anything they sell. And the actors remind me of pimps with stables of whores, all in competition with one another.
As soon as one movie comes out and makes big bank, the next studio down the line comes out with a copycat and their top bill actor(s), to star.
While they all pander to one another to make it look like it's all for us. Even the Oscars suck! Because the "academy" is comprised of other actors who very often, as Dustin Hoffman once said in an interview, haven't seen a single movie on the ballot. But they know the actors listed in them, so it's all a matter of friendships, business, nepotism, that garners the votes to those actors that make for the golden statue being awarded them. And don't let 'em fool you, it's also about the box office gross, nationally and world wide.
And the screen actors guild awards aren't any better. That's bold in your face, as a fan, actors voting for one another. And the people's choice of quality entertainment and value?
As bad as movies are getting now, by a large margin compared to good quality one's top to bottom, do we actually believe the system present in Hollywood gives a damn about what the people would choose to entertain them? They sell crap and we swallow it.

As I said, I often think it's a game the studios play to see just how much they can make, making the worst crap to ever light up a dark room.

Tangent over you may now place your chairs in their upright position and say; what the fuck crawled up his ass and died?
(A lot. I've been having a bad day for about 10 years. )
