Everyone's been having a ridiculously shitty week, it sounds, so I'm reviving this thread so I can hug everyone who seems to need it!
I've had a hard year, and it's been made even harder by the fact that I am far away from everyone I grew up with. It never hit me until times were down just how long the distance and hours were. And I've been ridiculed for the atheist and skeptic friends I've made off the internet. But some of the people I've met this way have become very dear people to me - better friends than a lot I've met in person! So I went looking for a great emoticon and ended up stumbling upon this. The explanation underneath it from the girl who made it was fitting:

Here's to far away friends, who chat with you whichever way possible, and know how to be there for you in spirit when people who could be with you physically can't, or won't. Here's to late night drinking sessions over IM or hang-out, and wild romps through cyberspace with good people.

This to me hit me hard, and even though I wont repeat it all here I wrote a rather lengthy reply to them.
Friends are based on how you help, smile, love and how you laugh with each other, not by how far apart your homes are.
I've got friends all over the world.. but, just as they far; sometimes even the other side of the world, it doesn't make them any less of a friend to me.
