I know a guy that threw the bible on a venomous spider once, so the bible has saved one life at least.
I've read your Facebook discussion, I didn't find your points terribly convincing but their arguments were even worse. I'm guessing they never encountered much opposition to their point of view. The best point you made so far is the one with the Westboro baptists church. There is a lot one can say about them, but the one thing you cannot accuse Phelps and Co of is that they don't know their bible.
