I know I'm seen as a soccer nerd on here, and hey, it's all relative. But don't ask me who the goalkeepers were in last night's Atlanta United vs. Columbus Crew MLS playoff. I didn't even see it because life called (in the form of a nutrition class at my HMO <3 ). But I do enjoy watching when I have the legitimate time to do so (90 minutes, remember, plus OT and penalty kicks if it's a tourney.
I remember when I first moved into my condo in Pennsylvania. We had buku cable! So I did indeed spend the day watching what was then Fox Sports World. Leagues I had never watched. Bundesliga, Serie A, EPL, La Liga, and I think maybe Ligue 1. There was a world of the sport of there, and that day's matches were just the tip of the iceberg. But now I'm more diciplined. I watch MLS and CONCACAF Champions League (instead of the more fashionable UEFA CL), because I am an American. In America. UEFA is not our zone. CONCACAF is.
But nowadays, real life (family, health, etc.) take precedence, as they should have all along. But, honestly, I had a tendency as a kid to push it to the next level, but with auto racing. I idolized Dale Earnhardt Sr. from NASCAR. Bobby Rahal in Indy Car. And I enjoyed other forms of motorsport, like sports cars, and even showroom stock, when it would get any airtime. I'd get compulsive, and visibly upset if Dale placed as low as 5th any one day.
Music was sort of an obsession, but I had no interest in what my peers liked (true in every sphere of life, really). I liked what their parents liked. So, usually smooth jazz/new age (i.e. Kenny G, Enya, Yanni). My first concert, I think, was David Lanz. My mother, the hard rocker, took me. We also saw Keiko Matsui, Tim Weisberg, Dan Siegel, and some others I forget.
As for soccer, I also like the infrastructural issues: Columbus Crew moving to Austin, TX in '19, Sunil Gulati and the upcoming U.S. Soccer election, new stadia, new kit sponsors, etc.
