Have you ever asked yourself:
How the fuck did I even let myself get in this predicament?
You 2 seem like polar opposites!
Well, yes...we are polar opposites, and I definitely gave some thought as to how this all happened. When we were married, she was a self-proclaimed Atheist. But she always had a predisposition for overestimating her confidence in things that seemed true to her. She hasn't ever been much of a critical thinker, she's not one to consider alternatives before jumping to conclusions, and she would make fun of Christians and other religions without actually ever knowing exactly what it was she was making fun of. I was brought up Christian; raised in church. My reasons for not believing in Christianity were far different than hers. Her mind was the perfect environment for a religious belief to hatch, and somewhere along the way, someone laid the egg. Knowing that a person identifies as an Atheist is no indication as to how much thought they've given to what it means; and for her...it couldn't be any clearer that she never even knew what it meant when she used to claim the title. So when I look back, it's actually quite easy to see how vulnerable she was to something like this. Critical thinking is a habit of thought that requires practice, and she's never been interested in that.
