When the 2nd amendment goes away. Mass shootings are an unavoidable consequence of it. It's like smoking and lung cancer. At some point in the future, Americans may decide that preventing these things is more important than having the right to own a firearm. It will take a massive cultural shift though. It's beyond the horizon.
Please note that 3% of Americans own 1/2 of the guns in this country. That's 123,000,000 guns owned by 990,000 people. Most Americans don't own a gun.

The crazies I know in the hundreds are one step away from that on any given day. If you ever want to overthrow a Latin American nation you can arm up by breaking into a few pickup trucks I can point out to you.
