We're interesting creatures, aren't we?
Consider a story from beyond your religious indoctrination. The suffering of Wotan. The evil he endured - and perpetrated..in search of knowledge. Knowledge above all things. There was nothing he wouldn;t give for it. He tried to trade his life for knowledge, he lost his eye for knowledge. He eventually got it. He could cast the runes and do magic and even foretell the future. He could see more with his remaining eye than any man could see with both of theirs.
However, like Cassandra, his knowledge of the future is wedded to a curse. He cannot change it. For all of his power, he will lose the war against jotun, and he will die. Was the evil and suffering worth it, for the knowledge he gained?
