I backpacked into a canyon in the Superstition Mountains in Arizona. Music Box Springs Canyon. Hikers called it "The Big O" because it almost formed a complete circle. Right after sunset a thunder cloud appeared above one wall of the canyon. It kept rising above the cliff until the cloud spilled into the canyon. The cloud dumped rain, thunder, and lightening as it made three passes inside the canyon. Very low to the ground and fast moving. After the third trip around it went up over the canyon wall and continued its desert travels. Awesome spectacle and very weird. You could assign an animist quality if you were so inclined.
