He was no scientist. He used his (very correct) guess about the nature of stars to advance his own (heretical) theology. He was eventually burned at the stake. Was it because of his revolutionary ideas about the cosmos? Or was it about his heretical theology? Neither.
The church burned people at the stake for disagreeing with them. He disagreed. That's why.
