Nah, seriously though, my gf said she enjoyed the film too, without seeing the show.
I didn't like anything in the film. From the acting to the special effects to the slow fighting pace to the skipped storyparts (which I understand in a film-adaptation but still) to the impossible time-table (Zhao has a teleporter I swear) to the weak introduction of the fire-lord to ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF EXPOSITION to ...
I could go on. I don't think I would have liked the film, even if I hadn't seen the show. The show is fucking amazing though. And this film doesn't do anything to tear that down. But it is an unnecessary adaptation that just failed on so many levels. And even more obviously when you know the source material, I guess.
Have you seen the show since, Shell?
I didn't think it was anything to write home about, to be sure. Still, it was fun for kids, had some decent effects/action, etc. No worse or better than most of action/fantasy movies.
I haven't caught the show since. I have a hard time enjoying cartoons if they're meant to be serious. Only very few have a good enough story for me to suspend disbelief. I prefer funny cartoons. We've been meaning to give Spirited Away a chance, though.
