That being said, you can't really 100% buy it when someone says they have depression unless you get a chance to actually observe them on an everyday basis, you can't really trust psychiatrists a 100% either because they're really just looking for business. If it's possible only to to doctors that has a history of charity works or doctors that work part time in a 0 profit type of hospitals.

Problem with observation is often due to the stigma of mental illness. A victim  will try their damndest to hide it so it can go undetected for years   . Clinical diagnosis is really the only way to really be sure . But the patient has to open up about it . Thou few would lie about such a thing considering the stigma that comes with it .

As for psychiatrists  your painting a rather broad brush . Many  heavily for profit psychiatrists or counsellors simply don't have the time  to do charity or non profit  work . And some only do non profit or charity because it looks good on a record . Plus i point out frequent lying during diagnosis a career death sentence. As your reputation for honesty means a lot .
