This is so very possible. Let's just assume that there is a "backstage" where businessmen and elite money giants get to make deals to spy on people in order to get interests out of them; I mean really; facebook was involved in such a deal:

So in other words; the society is fucked.
Programming wise; your location can be fetched easily, and the google email can be linked to the fetched GPS.
If an ebay user like you gets to an approximate distance from the item offered for sale; the email gets send.
There must be an app though, in your phone, that fetches your coordinates and sit waiting for the signal: a device is placed close to the shoe is generating the signal the app needs, probably you gave it permission to access your GPS during installation. If your phone is connected to the internet; then it is very possible that "big brother" knocked your door.
Otherwise; you're just paranoid but it's a healthy paranoia.
Remember: you're the one who gave them your email in the first place. Didn't you sign up?
BTW; in Palestine, the IDF took it to higher levels and assassinated people by blowing up their phones remotely.
Right there is also a possibility to get your location using wifi only
