Oh well, although I think that his establishment Coast To Coast AM radio is total shit where they really know no boundaries of insanity they'll claim is true, I guess got even worse after he retired, he himself was kind of legend. Compared to what c2c is now Bell seemed to have a dose of sobriety - or maybe not I'm not that well familiar with the whole thing.
He lived somewhat romantic life in the desert where during the night he talked about UFOs for many years when he got rich selling book rights to Roland Emmerich who made that movie "Day After Tomorrow" and Bell could retire to Hawaii, although it says that he died in Nevada.
I guess he also influenced some TV shows like "X Files" and Spielberg 2002 TV show "Taken" where they feature similar radio show that grows into a movement. Although he was not a pioneer in paranormal radio, that was Long John Nabel.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
