Interesting. Here is an example of why i am on here.... thankyou. I assumed all atheist was out to prove there is no God. A lot of atheist sure do call theist idiots, morons, ludicrous, etc. over believing in something that they themsleves dont believe in. Is that because of all the proselytizing and hammering yall have to endure?
The reason why a lot of atheists call theists "idiots, morons, ludicrous, etc", is not because you believe things we don't. It is because you believe things for which there is insufficient demonstrable and falsifiable evidence, and valid and sound logic to support.
I don't use those words, because everyone is an idiot with regards to something. I tend to use the word "gullible" to describe theists beliefs.
The difference is, if someone points out I am an idiot or moron with regards to a belief I hold, and they are able to support their reasons with evidence, and valid and sound logic, do you know what I'll do? I'll stop believing the idiotic thing. That is the intellectually honest thing to do.
What I do not consider to be rational reasons to hold a belief, are: faith, supernatural claims in ancient texts, personal experience (except with regards to non-rational things, like love, art, etc), hearsay, religious authority, etc.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
