I have always found this facet of Christianity so riveting. I mean apparently he is a loving God, but if you don't worship him he will dam you to eternal suffering. Now I could be wrong, but that sounds more like an abusive relationship.

A correction on your thought, it is you who chooses the eternal suffering, God has an open invitation to everyone to receive Jesus and salvation. If you refuse then God grants you your choice of eternal suffering.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
