Why? Because I'm profoundly, chronically unconvinced as to the existence of gods.
There are multiple conflicting claims, for the most part clustered geographically/culturally, with different rules as to what one is supposed to do to get into the good graces of any particular deity.
There's nothing special about believers. At best they're happy in their belief and it inspires them to be nice people who want to make the world a better place. At worst they can be murderous bastards. None of them have special powers to indicate that they're in contact with anything out-of-the-ordinary.
There's also no empirical evidence pointing to any gods, let alone to any specific god.
It doesn't matter how wonderful the benefits are for believing, or how dire the threats for not believing. I don't believe that nonsense either. My brain has automatically rejected religious faith, along with all the deities currently on offer and all of their holy books, miracles, and believer testimonies. I don't see any way to change that perception (and I don't know of any good reason that I should try to change it, either). Utter waste of my time.
