Greed and the fallacious 'just world' theory drive capitalism, I reckon.
The first, greed, is obvious. The other..... is the idea that everyone can make themselves. The self-made man. The delusion that everybody can just become a success despite the fact this world is mostly down to luck. Socialism is supposed to factor in the bad luck in life which is why it's about sharing stuff rather than grabbing stuff.
I am NOT saying that socialism can work. I'm saying that if it did work, we'd live in a better world than capitalism.
