I thought they were excellent fiction novels personally. I read Angels and Demons first, and was equally impressed with the Da Vinci Code. I also have read one other novel of his (forget what it was called) and that one was about NASA and the NSA. Quite interesting reads, filled mostly with fact, and based on fictional thriller 
Imo, if one loves the Harry Potter stories and the Inheritance cycle: they will also like this. One does not need magic to create a fantasy...
As for the more serrious discussion in this thread: The power of life is to be able to choose, even if one is wrong. So you would like to rid the world of choice, and make us all logical and unfeeling computers?
