It depends on who you mean by "we." I'm sure there's a range. Sometime a few years ago I think I was a little above average on some test, but I read a lot more in those days.
I think becoming an atheist is more about open mindedness and willingness to question authority. The latter probably explains why I came to it fairly late in life.
