Even the smartest of us all cannot escape our subconscious conclusions that are based more on what is pleasing to the emotional aspect of our psyche than reality. We appease our need for purpose by ignoring or misinterpreting evidence. The problem with Christian apologetics is that it brings these ingrained flaws to the forefront of our consciousness and rationalizes it, giving intelligent people the ability to justify the belief that a supernatural entity is not only aware of their existence, but has their best interests at heart.
The human race is so devoid of a sense of significance that it must imagine a deity is carefully observing every aspect of its life to bring about the best possible situation. We need to stop living as if the cosmos was designed specifically for us and create a purpose of our own, but as long as Christian apologetics is around to validate delusion, we will be incapable of such endeavors.

Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
