So I guess having a high IQ in a religious society would make you an atheist and therefore more likely to be killed. Hence having a low IQ would be preferable.
No, having a high IQ also means one tends to be more capable of simultaneously processing divergent or mutually conflicting trains of thought, which in term lead to superior capacity for deceit.
I think most of those in position of influence conducive to profitable self-dealing in religious societies are atheists of the variety with higher IQ and lower scruples.
