Referring to the infants killed in lieu of baby Jesus as 'innocents' is heresy in that it denies their culpability in original sin.

The word innocent as applied to those male children would mean they did not deserve to die at the command of man, especially one that was as crazy and insecure as Herod. God punishes sin and man commits the sin as Herod did with those children.

It pointed out a specific town not a building read the Bible and you can find such simple answers. The star set past the horizon where the town was. At a certain time of year i can watch the sun set exactly where the city I grew up in is. Stars do the same, this particular star was a planet in retrograde.

Maybe you should try reading the fucking thing, G-C?  Then again, it has obviously done enough damage.

 Your trying to say a very specific place and I'm saying that it was the city where the Christ child was born. The Bible doesn't say the star stopped over the stable, it says the place. A planet in retrograde will stop at a specific point in the sky and from a persons perspective at the time and place they are it would look as it it stopped over a certain place. I've challenged you to look at the DVD "The Star of Bethlehem," but stubborn you just can't do it. I read the book you sent me when I first came to this site, I took your challenge. The star and the planet both had names and yes at that time with significant meaning to who the Christ child was to be, imagine that.

That reads more to me that the people of the time did not understand perspective when it comes to distance and the stars so they just kept following it until it brought them to their destination.

Remember at this time people in that area still believed in a firmament.

 You should watch the DVD called "the Star of Bethlehem," it can answer those ideas of the knowledge people had of the heaven at that time in history.

Due to the Earth's rotation relative to the solar system's and galaxy's ecliptic planes, following a star (as in walking exactly in the direction of the star) does not work very well.  Over a night, you will end up walking in a semi-circle, not in a straight line.  There are two reasons for this:

1)  The star appears to move during the night because of the Earth's rotation; and

2)  The tilt of the Earth's axis (again, relative to the plane of the solar system's and the Milky Way's ecliptics) makes the star appear to change orientation when compared to any terrestrial direction.  For example, the star Sirius (often considered the Star of the Magi in the Biblical literature) will point due East but only on certain days and at certain times.  On other days and at different times it will not point due East.  And, of course, as night passes that star faces South then West.

One other point.  At no time during the year does Sirius appear directly overhead when the observer is in the Middle East (or anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere).  That only occurs at about 17º S latitude (e.g., Fiji Islands).

The Bible did not say the star appeared directly over head and that would not be a necessity. The star was a planet in retrograde that's why it appeared to stop.
