Tangent: Yes, I believe an eye-for-an eye is primitive, vindictive and childish. Just like Sharia law as described (and practiced) by some of the more conservative Muslims, such as the Saudi Wahhabi.
If I somehow appeared to be chastising you for your remark, that was certainly not my intention. Your opinion is always welcome and appreciated.
As for the eye-for-an-eye ideology: In many cases (not all) I'm for it and I don't think it childish whatsoever. If some shit sandwich of a human being kidnapped and murdered my son, you can be god damn sure I'd be practicing eye for an eye on his short painful existence.
The bleeding hearts cry for the criminal and forget the victim. It's infuriating and insulting and it's not childish (in my opinion) to dole out punishment that suits the crime. You kill a child - you get to die. Prison is not a fair punishment for such an offense and all it does is give the rest of society an additional burden.
Now of course, at the other end of this little conundrum is my friend and his adulterous wife. In this case, eye for an eye doesn't actually solve anything and only serves to place more strife and negativity into people's lives. A one-up-manship begins and the true justice that eye-for-an-eye was meant to dole out is completely lost. That being said, I still understand it and wouldn't judge a person for their actions in that situation ... as it is SO easy to judge someone when you're not standing in their shoes.
Me? I would just divorce the bitch and be done with it. But that's me.
