The Chinese invent everything, I am sure if you dug deep enough, we'd find their patent on the sun. Take that theists!
As usual, Brian doesn’t believe he needs to be bothered with getting facts right before he would exercise his magnanimity and consent to grace us with edifying exhibitions of his unique ability to divine the underlying truth.
The reality is as usual multifaceted and not amenable to encapsulation by a few sound bites offered through a bullhorn. The Chinese secondary education system, at least through the official school curriculum promogated by current government, puts almost hagiographic emphasis on western enlightenment and scientific revolution, and the lives and accomplishments of great western scientists and inventors since Copernicus. The average Chinese high school graduate probably know far more about which western scientist was responsible for what major revolution in history of scientific thought during the last 500 years, and which major western inventor was responsible for what vital invention, then the average American high school graduate.
At the same time they also put great emphasis on teaching the accomplishments of Chinese scientists and inventors from before the 1500s, and those from recent times, say the last 100 years.
There is no doubt the official line in China is the fruits of the Age of Enlightenment and modern science are wonderful wonderful things, and these was primarily western things, and China wasn’t onboard during most of it.
