So I guess you could say I inherited him... and given that free will does not exist I suppose I couldn't have chosen to kill hem (despite making the conscious decision to do so).

What makes you think you do not have a free will?
In fact, there is a quick test I can give you that shows that you do have free will. Within the limits of nature and physics that is. If you will something that goes beyond these then whatever you think free will is, is a delusion.
Care to try my test and prove it to youself?
