By not understanding why the consciousness goes from little to high awareness as it turn from lower form of life to higher form of life then it will be impossible for you to also understand why the consciousness can not possibly come to a screeching halt with the physical death.

You are thousand miles away from the truth Kit but as the old granny said........is never too late to learn.  

Well, why now you're just mixing science fiction with theology, because that simply makes everything much clearer.

I would rather leave theology with CL and science fiction with atheists.
As far as it concern me I pick what make sense and I leave the rest to fools that dream that the universe pop up as per magic.
