It's always alarming to me when people's first reaction to sexual assault allegations is to dismiss it or figure out why it isn't valid, i.e. it happened x amount of years ago, why didn't she report it then? Or... can we really trust her word, she was drunk! or something along these lines.

Yes, women lie about allegations from time to time. In my opinion, those women should be punished legally. Men as well. Anyone who makes up false allegations about someone should be punished, that's wrong. You can ruin someone's life with even false allegations. So yea, that DOES happen. But why would you assume that first?
